Another playback software to argue over

I'm certainly happy with the blind tests I arranged and performed accidentally. If others feel the need to do their own tests then fine, I hope they just get on with it and report back. How do we arrange a blind test of the blind test results though.....

Another playback software to argue over

Fork, can I suggest that when you do your blind testing you include some longer-term listening? By this I mean something close to a complete album or equivalent to the side of an LP. Short-term A/B comparisons are fine for picking out glaring differences in FR or dynamics but miss the subtle...

Another playback software to argue over

It seems I ought to describe something of what I hear with MQn. My system comprises a couple of good turntables as well has my CA setup. The introduction of MQn has brought redbook playback to be very comparable to my two turntables. Where the turntables won out in the past was timing/rhythm...

Another playback software to argue over

Having so very easily heard the differences between versions with defined coding differences it is very clear that the "bits are bits" argument is flawed.

The developer is making code changes to gain an understanding of what relationships exist between coding technique and sound quality. It is an very interesting journey. This is not an unusual way to investigate and develop knowledge.

If Jriver take down their page on Jplay being a hoax then I expect a lot of these discussions would calm down. It's Jriver's position which fundamentally causing the issue. If the latest version of Jriver doesn't make the redirect then we need to know. There's been a couple of reports that it...

The sorts of differences I hear probably wouldn't be so obvious with headphones and lot depends on the headphones too - then again I'm not into phones so what do I know? Not being able to have DirectLink working suggests he has a bottleneck in his machine somewhere, this will be influencing...

I wonder why he couldn't get DirectLink working, even I can do this on a typical i5 laptop. He must be using a very old machine or have a terrible setup. That's all I can conclude.

That's one approach that is worth using; it uses short term memory which is very fickle and very short lived (20s?). Hence I feel it's likely subjects will be very suggestible but all approaches are worth trying, there's no single best way. Personally I find long-term listening more reliable...

Another interesting aspect to throw in here is that when I tried Jriver vs Foobar/ASIO4ALL they didn't sound the same to me. I'm not alone in thinking this yet they are both bit-perfect. As for JPLAY with JPLAYmini it's different again (best IMO). Re the Jriver popup - I don't have an issue...

I will never buy your product, this particular business practice is totally unprofessional. If you felt you had the high ground you would be bigger than this. I can only think you feel threatened. By the way how can JPLAY be hoax as it functions as a standalone player? Sure it's not free...

    JRiver MC Version 18

This is a weird situation. Jim of Jriver is even censoring Jriver/JPLAY discussion on his forum by deleting posts. This is not in a spirit of openness. There are those who believe from a technical viewpoint that bit perfect cannot be improved upon and there are those who believe such tests...

    JRiver MC Version 18

It's not really fair to denigrate JPLAY by calling it a plug-in, yes it can be seen as that but in fact it's a fully functional player which can be used by 2 other other players if desired. It so happens that it sounds best as a standalone player. It does not provide media library...

Hi Amir, Thank you for your kind welcome. I should say a little bit about myself. I am unashamedly a subjectivist but I'm also not totally technically unaware, I've built a lot of diy projects and have a reasonable scientific grounding but I'm more commercially focused than technically...

Amir, is it possible that the tests you refer to aren't sufficient? I have two examples of related areas where industry respected people are using non-standard tests to get at why people are hearing things which standard tests suggest can't happen. 1) John Westlake (Audiolab) said this...
