And enjoy I did :). Thanks for posting it. I especially liked the dude with his feet on the table by the waterfall! In US, there would be a resort there. :D

I have only been to a couple of ports where cruise ships "dump" you. Love to see the rest of the country. If you were to list the top 5 places to visit in Mexico, what would they be if the person is into scenery and food?

I would consider these three options amir, all of them very safe :

1.- Playa del Carmen/Rivera Maya - skip Cancun and get here, same arqueological, biosphere reserves and great food/ sightseeimg (Mayakooba Resort Hotel $$$$ would be my take here) - 5 days at least

2.- Chiapas - Rainforest/damps/food - Tuxtla as base city, local tours at Camino Real Hotel $$$ - 3 days at least to visit Palenque, rivers and San Juan Chamula.

3.- Oaxaca/Huatulco - great colonial site, best food in the country IMO and great beach destiny by plane from Oaxaca, Camino Real or Quinta Real Hotels $$$ and get local tours at Concierge desk.

The list goes to number 99 :)

it´s unfortunate that Mexico is receiving such a bad press, there are of course some specific border cities where gangs are killing each other due to our government being more active in law enforcement and criminal prosecution, but 98% of the territory is not just fine, but better in terms of infrastructure and safety - even with this bad press Mexico had it`s record high tourist visits last 2011, and recovering year after year.

Tourism from the US dropped because of this exaggerated press coverage, but tourism from the EU and South America grew almost 100% over last year...I mean... we are so close!

Thanks a bunch. I feel bad that I have seen so little of your wonderful country. And yes, safety concerns had given me pause. Thanks for the reassurance.

I have some family right now in Mexico (for the last four months) and Mexico is their second home after Montreal.

They return each year for few months, and they have the best times of their life! :b

* I can tell you 'bout all the magic places I've been in the mountains, jungles, pyramids, etc.,
including Oaxaca, Tulum, Taxco, Paracho, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Cozumel, Mazatlan,
Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Palenque, Merida, Santa Rosa, Cancun, Los Cabos, Patzcuaro, Tehuantepec, San Cristobal de las Casas, Chetumal, Tuxtla, Toluca, Santa Cruz, Morelia, Tepic, Villahermosa, Colima, Puerto Escondido, Campeche, Huatulco, Mexico City, etc., etc., etc....

Fantastic times! Beautiful people! Amazing vistas! .... :b

You have been into more places than I had! some not considered as a vacation spot such as Toluca or Villahermosa, which are more industrial - quite a nice surprise!

You got that one right Flez.
I traveled (lled) more in Mexico than most Indians living in the mountains! :b

But then, the mountains over there (some of them) are truly magical and hypnotic.
...The trees, the abundance, the fertile vegetation, the prominent moisture of the soil, ...
They'll grab you by the eyes and never let go of you; so you are stucked there with them.
...The forests, the jungles, the wildlife, ...

Did you see that church in San Cristobal de las Casas?
Did you take the magic mushrooms at the chutes of Palenque?
Did you went swimming in the ocean at Santa Rosa's beaches, Tulum, Cancun?
Did you travel in the mountains of Oaxaca? Did you meet the artisans making the knifes?
Did you play the classical guitars (rosewood) of Paracho?
Did you see the multitude of sand tornadoes over there in the beautiful countryside?
Did you go shopping in Guadalajara? Did you see all the silver at Taxco?
Did you live on the west coast, on the beaches, between two trees,
in your hammoc that you bought from Merida's main jail?
Did you see Tulum and Cancun before they became what they are now?
Did you go in the bars at Merida to hear the Mexican local bands with their trumpets?
Did you ...

Flez, I can tell you some of my adventures that are truly magical, just like I said before.
And many many many of them. And in great details (I can easily write few books 'bout it).

I went to Guatemala too, and to Belize. And to San Salvador, ...
I know my America continent and its four oceans (North & South).
From South to North, and East to West.
Not from books, but in person, live!

Nice exchanging with you! :b

I have been there probably a dozen times. Usually visiting Samsung (and once or twice LG). Love Kimchee and Korean pickles/side dishes. What did you find awesome Bruce? I never took the time to look around. Just business trips and one or two day stays....

One that needs to be considered IMO is the Galapagos Islands, there are some very excellent yacht size cruise holiday for the region (used to be anyway) and an experience one will never forget.
I am thinking back quite a few years ago when the holiday visitor permits were incredibly restricted, hopefully still one of the best locations to visit but all depends how much impact current holiday visitor numbers are (definitely increased over the years).

Cheers
