Frank, if you will, just let us know how we can help you to help all who are interested in achieving this goal. There are many folks interested in seeing this happen. Thank you for your efforts.
Thanks, Tom. It's going well, I bogged down badly with the effort in the first round, trying to sort out too many fiddly things, and trying to get too many things right. The curse of the (wanting to be) perfectionist!! I've got a new lease of energy on it now, thanks to the responses of everyone! Plus, I'm using a different approach now, which is helping a great deal: at times I have to play "games" with my brain, do things one way versus another, pick the right way through to achieve a decent conclusion.
But one thing that needs to be decided is how public should this material be? If posted, a casual passerby gets the full benefit of the members' efforts, including my first stage of it. Is this what is wanted, or should material be sent around via PM's?
Frank
Thanks, Steve. Should this thread now be made invisible, if that's possible, or a new thread started that only members can see, where documents can be attached, or linked to?I can make it invisible to all but members. I agree with your concern. Thanks
Yes, that's an obvious start:you could certainly use the genre we have in our subfora here
Also, sub-genres.
Opera, Choral (choirs), small classical ensemble (chamber), big Classical Orchestral works,
Electric Progressive Jazz or Blues, Acoustic ones, Heavy Metal, New Age, Alternative,
World Music (Africa, India ...), Classic Rock, Heavy Rock, Smooth Rock, Reggae, Funk, Punk,
Folk, Soul, Easy listening, Soft pop, Hard pop, Be-pop, Charleston, Traditional, Big Bands,
New Jazz, Old Jazz, New Orleans Jazz, Mississippi Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, African Blues, ...
No worries, Bob, it's all good! :bI am sorry, it was simply a precision on sub-genres.
My intention was to help, and not to complicate things.
Then I agree, simply pick the main styles of music and that's fine by me.
Thanks, John. As Steve suggested, and my extension of that would now be:
Pop/Rock
R&B
Blues
Jazz
World
Classical
AllMusic has some nice sub-genres for, say, Jazz; neatly set up: e.g. African, Big Band, Fusion, New Orleans, etc -- if people want to go that way ...

The new word of this new age is called Indie.
