Indeed. I watched a really cool documentary on Netflix about their "1". Mercedes one ups them 
in that they will be using the biggest "1" in all of automobile-dom, the Turbo V6 drivetrain of the CURRENT manufacturer's AND driver's class leading F1 cars. It's a mystery to me how they will make these screamers drivable on the street though.
As for being a Turbo V6 Hypercar, Ford beat them to it with their new GT. Looking at the lines on the sketch the top scoop and profile are very much reminescent of the McLaren F1 (powered by BMW's M division). Guess there's nothing much new under the sun.

Making it street able is the only reason the price tag gets so high. There's plenty of custom/home builds that have the power to weight ratio and didn't cost much. Handling can go either way, and looks is certainly dominated by the commercial manufacturers.
I've seen a street able 2khp car, it used pump gas but had a special octane booster tank of something else that would activate when the boost climbed high enough. That seems like the theme, these cars are more limited by available street gas than engineering for sheer hp.

I believe the issue with F1s engines is that the power comes in very high in the rev range, 8000rpm on up to 11,000rpm.
That's the word Double B. I don't know if that will be the case for all models or just that one special.
That's not a problem for street capability necessarily. The biggest issue is they don't last very long because so many choices are for performance. They don't necessarily even last a whole race depending on how the driver treats them. For example their wrist pin height is as close to the top of the piston as they can physically manage to reduce the size of the piston (rotating weight). It equals more power but it creates huge pressure on small areas of the tiny piston. It also creates a lot of pressure as the piston can will try harder to rock, which is hard on rings and cylinder wall (probably sleeves that get replaced several times a year).
Aside from adding lots if titanium to a commercial vehicle (benefits), an F1 engine is mostly marketing since they can't really be the same, as the things that make an F1 unique are mostly unique since they have a short life span. I'm sure there are some lessons in strength to weight, which would be helpful for these high hp to kg rankings.
MB always publishes conservative figures. Motor Trend published figures around 2.9
Ah, as mentioned above by Mr. B, it will be sub 3.0 when it arrives...also, the AMG GT R will be really magical when you are not flying in a straight line ~~~~~

Steve, you should go for the GT C, it will be quite the experience, especially in the low-humidity SoCal.
